National Honor Society Induction

Last night, 123 BV West juniors and seniors were inducted to the school’s chapter of National Honor Society.

The ceremony, which took place at 6 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, focused on NHS’s four pillars- scholarship, leaderships, service and character.

After BV West principal Dr. Potts gave the opening remarks, each NHS officer spoke about the four pillars. President Zane Champie spoke about leadership, Vice-President Phillip Lin discussed scholarship, Sergeant-at-Arms Justin Abraham gave his speech about service and Treasurer Kevin Varghese spoke about character.

Following the officer speeches, math teacher Teresa Grospitch received the annual Award for Excellence in Teaching. This award, which is voted on by current NHS members, is presented to the teacher who they feel has strongly represented the values that NHS thinks highly of.

Then Dr. Restivo, who was the invited speaker, spoke to the inductees and audience about what scholarship truly means and the importance of academic risk taking.

After the inductees were sworn in, they celebrated their accomplishments in the hallways with their families and some delicious treats.
