Words of victory and concession

Since the end of the 2016 primaries, the citizens of the United States have been anticipating the general election on November 8th. That date has now passed, and America has its new President-elect, Donald J. Trump.

Even though Clinton is currently winning the popular vote, she lost the election to Trump who won in the Electoral College.

In the early hours of the morning on November 9th, Trump gave his acceptance speech. Trump talked about how it is time “for us to come together” as one united people. He went on to thank Clinton because she worked “very hard over a long period of time.” He added that all Americans owe Clinton “a major debt of gratitude for her service” to our country.

After Trump gave his acceptance speech, Hillary gave her concession speech later that same day. Clinton talked about how “our campaign was never about one person or even one election,” but was about the “country we love and about building an America that’s hopeful.”  She went on to say, “let us have faith in each other, let us not grow weary, let us not lose heart, for there are more seasons to come.”

The election is now over, and our new President of the United States of America will be Donald J. Trump. Over the next four years, Americans who supported Trump and those who supported Clinton will see whether the words of both candidates will be put into action and whether unity, hope, and faith in each other will be possible.
