Volleyball triangular raises awareness of breast cancer
BV West volleyball hosted their 15th Annual Dig Pink event to benefit breast cancer awareness on Thurs., Oct. 15. The Jags hosted St. James Academy and Shawnee Mission East. All three teams wore special pink uniforms. The crowd and the gym were dressed in pink as well. Volleyball parents and volunteers from the Side Out Foundation hosted tables and booths selling themed merchandise and giving away pamphlets and information.
The team split their matches with St. James and SM East. The match against St. James started off the competitive night of volleyball with BVW winning the first game 25-19 then lost the next two games 21-25 and 16-25. With a lift from the enthusiastic crowd the varsity team won two close matches with SM East 25-21 and 25-22.
Senior Emily Engelken and junior Madison Lilley were neutralized by the Thunder of St. James but lead all attack percentages against SM East.
Junior Peyton Uhlenhake and sophomore Megan Neil enjoyed 100% serving percentages against St. James. Neil and Lilley along with sophomore Jana Owens enjoyed 100% serving percentages against SM East.
The Jags went to Topeka on Oct. 20. They won both games against Topeka High School. The score from their matches against Lawrence High School had not been recorded at the time of this posting. ++++
