Over the weekend, I saw the movie the Descendants.
Most teenagers wouldn’t ever think twice about going to see this type of movie- it was sad and dealt with adult themes. I was pleasantly surprised, though, as this turned out to be one of the best movies I have ever seen. I’ve always been a fan of the silver-fox George Clooney, and this movie definitely reaffirmed by obsession. He is a brilliant actor and played his part very well.
I was moved by him, and found myself very attached to his character his role in the film. Many of us know rising star Shailene Woodley as Amy from Secret Life of The American Teenager. I felt that she really broke out of her juvenile role in the TV show and transformed into an actress whom I would have guessed had been doing it all her life. She was funny and refreshing, in contrast to the situation at hand in the movie.
The Descendants is funny, tragic, moving, and an all around great movie. I highly encourage everyone to go see it; there’s a reason it’s up for so many awards. You’ll find yourself laughing and crying all in the same minute, all the while yearning for more. The characters are very easy to relate to and the situation is one that many people deal with every day. It yields a new perspective on life- to find happiness no matter what situation you are in. I really enjoyed the movie and I’ll be rooting for it for Best Picture at the Academy Awards on Sunday.
