AP Tests for Freshman

Are they too young?

Finals are a stressful time, but even more stressful are the AP Tests. As people look forward to summer, they just have to get through the AP tests and finals, then they are free.

An AP (advanced placement) class is like an honor class, to the extremes. At the end of the year, students can take a test that will allow them to possibly get collage credit. These tests are hard, however many students do get collage credit. Students often study for these even more than they study for finals, because it determines a factor in their future.

For the first time this year, an AP class was offered for freshman: AP Human Geography, taught by Mr. Addington (the AP U.S. History teacher). This class counts for a social studies credit, and it focuses on where things are and why they are there. It is not a typical geography class where you memorize the names of all of the countries and their capitals, although there is a little bit of that in the class. Instead the class focuses on people and their elements.

On Friday, May 15, freshman took the AP Human Geography test. It was held at West, because many students can’t drive. Many students were stressed, and now everyone is just looking forward to July, when they get their scores.

Many seniors say that the freshmen are too young to be in an AP class, and that they will not do well on the test. Many freshmen have good grades in the class, but only the scores will really say if they are too young.
