Netflix: The Internet Equivalent of a Library

Netflix, everyone’s new love. Who isn’t addicted and obsessed with the 21st century time waster? Many people have recently gotten hooked on Netflix within the past two years and it has only gotten bigger.

More and more students at Blue Valley West are getting in on the obsession with Netflix.

“I have been addicted for almost 6 months now. I spend more time watching Netflix than on my school work,” sophomore Andrew Thurman said.

Andrew went on to say his favorite show was Family Guy and he spends over 4 hours a week watching all the seasons.

Studies show that the average Netflix subscriber watches about 2 hours a day of episodes. Netflix has over 9,000 shows and movies to offer. The most frequently watched shows include Breaking Bad, Friends, Orange is the New Black, Scrubs, Gilmour Girls and Dr. Who.

Sophomore Camryn Evans recommends other subscribers to watch Gossip Girl. She has rewatched every season 3 times and continues to love the show.

“I’m so addicted, it’s bad. I look forward to relaxing and watching the show on the weekends. I’ve watched it so much I feel like I’m part of the cast. I’ve recently started watching Carrie Diaries but I always fall back to Gossip Girl,” said Camryn.

While asking around, many people enjoy watching Netflix most on the weekends with their friends and loved ones. Especially when watching scary movies, company is essential. Netflix is a cheap and quick way to watch movies and spend time together with others.

Not only is Netflix a hit here, but also in places northeast of Kansas like Indiana. It streams to 28.1 million homes.

“I watch Netflix 24/7. I’m currently finishing up Breaking Bad and I’ve recently started Walking Dead and Grey’s Anatomy. I’ve also enjoyed de-stressing on the weekends by enjoying their wide variety of movies,” junior Austin Polmateer admits.

“When taking my mind off of school, I love to just turn to my good friend Netflix. First, I go to Target to pick up my favorite chocolate ice cream. Once I get home, I slip on my comfy PJs, open my laptop and turn on Netflix,” said sophomore Skylar Holsinger.

Netflix has a wide audience, from older couples watching The Walton’s, to toddlers watching Dora, Netflix is enjoyed by all ages. The most used device to watch Netflix is the Play Station 3, however, its available to download on iPhones, iPads, and laptops. By having the access quick and easy at our fingertips, many subscribers indulge on watching shows during the day. Another common time is at night for many teenagers, especially on weekends.

While many may think of Netflix as a time consumer, most actually love it. Subscribers won’t stop watching until Netflix stops streaming.
