Many people claim there is nothing to do in Kansas. In actuality there is plenty of stuff to do. There are so many places to go to in Kansas, more specifically Kansas City. If you’re one of those people that think Kansas is just a bunch of flat land, think again!

One of Kansas City’s crown jewels is the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Opened on Dec. 11, 1933, this art museum houses artwork from America, Europe, and Asia. Known for the famous shuttlecocks scattering the north entrance lawn, this place is truly a site to see.

Sports fans can find the professional sports stadiums in the metropolitan area. Kansas City is home to the Kansas City Royals baseball team and the Kansas City Chiefs football team. Kauffman Stadium is the baseball stadium and Arrowhead Stadium is the football stadium. Baseball games at the K are exciting and definitely get your blood pumping. If you’re into football, just be prepared to lose your voice. Arrowhead Stadium has broken the record for the world’s loudest stadium twice and locals plan to hold on to it for as long as possible. Fun fact: Football teams that come to play the Chiefs have to practice hand signals for playing on the field because we’re so loud. MLS soccer fans claim the Sporting Park is one of the best stadiums in the league. Located in Kansas City, Kan., near the Legends shopping area, the park is home to Sporting KC and plenty of fan attractions for before and after the games.

Not a sports fan? For those that enjoy learning about history, the World War 1 museum should be your “hot spot” destination. Kansas City is home to the only World War 1 museum in the world. I personally enjoy seeing this museum over and over again. There aren’t a lot of history museums around so the World War 1 museum is one of my favorite places to visit. The museum features canons, guns, uniforms, newspapers, and even audio recordings of famous speeches. Some of the last few artifacts from the dissolved country of Prussia are on display

The Kansas City Zoo is one of the coolest places in the metro. Known for their polar bear exhibit, vast African veldt area, chimp habitat and many more. For those that enjoy zoos, the Kansas City is a hit.

Union Station is a place of wonder for little kids, teenagers and adults alike. Many Blue Valley students are introduced to the Union Station in 6th grade as a part of their science projects. Students are chosen as one of the Top 20 projects at each Lakewood. Others visit Science City, the amazing train museum, and revolving exhibits including a Gridiron Glory exhibit from the NFL Hall of Fame and the upcoming DaVinci exhibit.

Many view these locations as the top five to visit in KC. “Home is where the heart is” and many feel at home here in Kansas. For those who think Kansas is boring, think again.
