Winter Guard Hosts MCCGA Winter Guard Competition

Winter Guard Hosts MCCGA Winter Guard Competition

BV West Winter Guard is looking forward to hosting the MCCGA Winter Guard Competition for the second time this year on Saturday, Feb. 18. The Silver and Ruby teams will both be competing their four to five minute programs tomorrow along with over 50 additional teams from around the area.

“[We] couldn’t be more excited about [hosting],” junior and Winter Guard member Faith Marble said. “In the Guard community we often don’t get a lot of light put toward the activity, but at competitions everyone shares the same interest and love and that’s what it’s all about.”

Marble is a part of both Color Guard and Winter Guard, and is very passionate about her involvement in the activity. As a part of Color Guard, she performs shows at football games and competitive routines with her team. Although Winter Guard is similar to Color Guard, there are some important differences to note.
“It’s the same concept as Color Guard, except it takes place in the winter, it does not include the band, and it’s indoors,” Marble said. “We have a tarp that we perform on and it’s supposed to represent or go with the show design we have for the year. [Our shows] are performed to a song of choice and once [we] hit the floor it’s time to shine and perform.”

Guard hosted the MCCGA Winter Guard Competition at BV West last year as well. Their success in hosting and the positive implications it had for their Guard program prompted them to host again this year.

“We are doing this because a lot of the profit goes to benefit our program, but it also brings a positive connotation to our school,” Marble said. “We have held one before, last year, and it brought a lot of positive light to our amazing school.”

The competition will last all day, with many Guards from different schools, with unique routines, and with varying skill levels representing the community. Undoubtedly, the performances will be exciting to watch, and the hard work and commitment members have to their activity will shine through.

“It’s amazing seeing everyone come together to do what they love, to perform,” Marble said. “I am more than excited to see all of these different programs tomorrow and see their hard work pay off.”
