Many students are BVWest have been arguing about the amount of school they attend each week. Most students would argue that we should have to only go to school four days a week, as opposed to the regulatory five. I happen to agree with every one of the students that support this.
Only going to school four days a week has the potential to cut electric and water usage, as well as cut the costs for lunch. If we only come to school four days a week, the electric bill would go down because the lights would be off for an extra 24 hours. Instead of 70 hours a week with the lights on, it would only be about 50-60 hours a week. BVWest wouldn’t have to pay quite as much for food, either. The cafeteria would only have to feed around 4,000 kids a week as opposed to 5,000-6,000. The costs of cafeteria food would go way down.
Water usage and costs would also go down, since no one would be using the bathrooms and sinks on the extra weekend day.
The teachers pay would go down, too, because they are only teaching four days instead of five, which could potentially help the budget.
Overall, I think the school should completely shut for one extra day, and we should only have four days of school per week. It would make our district budget problems disappear. Only having 4 days a week seems like the best thing to do. I don’t think any students would disagree.
