This year through many doctor appointments I figured out that I have a major gluten intolerance. As you can imagine, that put quite a damper on things as far as going out to eat for different meals. For many months now, I have been trying to find options that are applicable for me and many BV West students who also have dietary needs and restrictions. As hard as it is and can be to find a meal at popular restaurants that does not contain gluten, I have done my best to do so.

Chipotle: Unfortunately for me, quesadillas are out of the equation due to the flour tortilla, but tacos and burrito bowls remain an option. The taco is available because of its corn tortilla and not being flour based and you can get most of what you want on it, although it is a bit less expensive for the amount you get if you are getting a burrito bowl. The chips and guacamole also are gluten free so make sure to grab yourself a bag.

Chick-Fil-A: Hands down Chick-Fil-A has the best chicken nuggets, but as upsetting as it is, they are fried in a flour based batter. Fortunately, you can order the grilled chicken nuggets (same chicken nuggets without the breading) and in my opinion, they still taste good, especially with the signature sauce. The waffle fries also remain gluten free while cooked separately in canola oil whereas the fried chicken is cooked in a peanut oil.

Red Robin: Bottomless fries are a must at this restaurant and at the location on 135^th and Antioch they make them gluten free. With your fries you can always get a burger and instead of the bun get lettuce for a lettuce wrap; I always go just no bun and it still tastes the same. They also have great options for salads and chicken burgers if you are not picky like me.

Lark Burger: This restaurant is a new addition to the Overland Park area and a wonderful option for people with gluten intolerances or Celiac. Each item on their menu can be made gluten free and upon request you can get a gluten free bun with any burger or have it wrapped in lettuce. The truffle fries are impeccable and something I would come back for. It is nice to have a convenient restaurant like this around, especially one that is so close.
