Teenagers and technology go hand-in-hand. There is a constant competition among young adults about the latest gadgets- who has the coolest phone, newest iPod, or most efficient computer. Apple has been making technology for as long as most can remember and the names of their utilities are familiar to tech-savvy students all around BV West. Apple iPhones have been around our halls since they first launched in June of 2007. The iPad, the most recent Apple invention, introduced itself in January of 2010.
However, many are unaware of the competitors for both of these devices. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is a recently introduced gadget very similar to the iPad. The HTC Evo 4G is a phone (launched in May of 2010) that is in strong comparison with the iPhone. With every generation of these devices that comes out, the creators try to one-up each other.
Many documents can be found online or in stores to compare each device side-by-side. The comparisons are very detailed and take every aspect of the device into serious consideration. The authors of the documents look at everything from size down to connectivity.
According to www.digitaltrends.com and www.cnet.com, the iPhone takes the lead against the Evo when it comes to display. Although the 4.3-inch screen on the Evo outdoes the 3.5-inch screen on the iPhone, the iPhone’s 960×640 pixel LCD screen outshines the 480×800 pixel LCD screen of the Evo. Along with the size of the screen goes the portability of the phone in general. The iPhone is smaller as a whole, at .37 inches thick and weighing in at 4.8 ounces. In comparison, the Evo is a slightly larger .5 inches thick and 6 ounces in weight.
The iPhone wins over the Evo when it comes to storage as well. This is something users commonly look at when buying a new gadget. Both phones have the same amount of storage available, it is just harder to attain with the Evo. The Evo comes with a 8GB microSD card, but it is possible to buy a larger card than that. To upgrade to a 32GB microSD card costs around $200. The iPhone has 16GB worth of internal storage and to upgrade to 32GB costs only $100. Both phones have potentially equal storage, but one is more expensive to achieve.
Like storage, battery life goes along with the principal, “the more the better.” The iPhone has up to seven hours of talk time on the 3G network, (14 hours of talk time on the 2G network) , six hours of Internet use, 10 hours of WiFi use, 10 hours of video playback and 40 hours of audio playback. These shocking amounts cannot be compared to the Evo due to its’ unknown battery life.
Camera phones are new to older generations, but are something most teenagers have known and loved for years. The Evo has an astoundingly better camera than the iPhone. In total, the Evo has an eight-megapixel camera whereas the iPhone only has a five-megapixel camera. On the Evo, there is a 1.3-mega pixel front-facing camera and a dual-LED flash. On the iPhone, there is only a .3-megapixel front-facing camera and a single-LED flash.
Last but not least, the Evo takes first place when it comes to connectivity as well. It has a 4G network, videoconferencing available without WiFi, is a carrier of Flash, and also serves as a WiFi hotspot for other devices (such as your computer). These are all characteristics that the iPhone lacks.
Ultimately, it is up to buyers to decide which device is best for them. Regardless of the decision, one who purchases either of these gadgets will be armed with the newest and most improved technology inventions available in retail.
