23 new staff members joined the BV West community in August. The group represents the full gamut of life travels, teaching experience and backgrounds.
English teacher, Kara David, and social studies teacher, Alex Lahasky bring a home town flavor to the group as returning Jaguars. David graduated from BV West in 2011 and after completing her degree at Oklahoma University, she came back home to substitute last spring. Lahasky completed a Master’s degree in history at Pittsburg State University and will sponsor the music writing club. He is a member of the band, The Tippers, and plays gigs around the metropolitan Kansas City area.
Physics teacher, Richard Strecker, comes to BV West after serving as the principal and president of Hayden High School in Topeka. Strecker also teaches at Johnson Community College.
Some of the new teachers have become educators after stints in the business world while others are fulfilling life-long dreams of standing in front of a classroom. They come from Johnson County, rural Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, the Bronx, New York, Nebraska, Idaho, Michigan and Colorado. Each come with the highest praise from principal, Dr. Brett Potts.
