Graduation and leaving behind the life you’ve always known and loved can be very difficult for many reasons. Being thrown into a new life whether it’s college, starting a career, or whatever you choose to do after graduation can be scary. Change is something that everyone faces at some point in their lives which some people dislike or adjust fast to. Senior Pierce Lysinger strives for helping those who stress about their future via social media.
Social media can be a negative influence on teenagers for many reasons but Pierce Lysinger switches his platform to make it more positive. Beginning in spring break of his senior year, he began uploading videos and content promoting positivity to all who follow his account (@Piercelysinger). By posting things like daily quotes, Bible verses, and life advice, Lysinger is able to inspire those around him. “I’ve always been very introspective and thoughtful,” he said. “I wanted to show both my friends, and the rest of the world that true happiness and confidence comes from the ability to stop caring what other people think about you, and to take action on any creative idea you want to pursue.”
High school is the time where people begin to find themselves and all the things that give them a benefit in life rather than a negative impact. Lysinger’s passion to start his Instagram was a way to help him get over the fear of thinking of others’ opinions of him. “I wanted to get the public embarrassment out of the way, and get comfortable being exactly who I was,” Lysinger said. In regards to who inspired him to begin his motivational journey, he says it’s a heavy combination of all those around him. “I take creative inspiration from all kinds of people. Though, I would discredit myself if I said my project’s inspiration was solely based upon an external motivational speaker,” he claims. “I have a lot of intrinsic desire to be a good person.”
Lysinger’s goal in creating the account was to help inspire others to not be fearful of things that life might throw at them. he hopes everyone lives their lives to the fullest and to enjoy every moment. “We live a short and fragile life. I didn’t want to wait to be happy, wait to create. I wanted to get the good stuff early. No image to chase, no perfection to achieve.” He heavily emphasized on the idea that nobody is perfect and everyone is unique in their own way. “Anyone is capable of making a difference in this world and once I truly took that sentence to heart, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.”
