Lately I feel that the school’s lunchroom is lacking in taste. From the looks of it, the lunchroom has been focusing mainly on the nutritional value of the food and not the taste of it. Healthier alternatives have been substituted for some of the extras at lunch. Recently, “Sqwinchers” have replaced the Gatorades in the lunchroom. Now, not only do you have to pay extra for a sports drink, but also it has to be a more nutritious drink that doesn’t taste as good.
One thing that really grinds my gears is that extras are the only things that look good to eat. From what I see, many students don’t even purchase an actual meal. Instead, they buy only extras, which can add up to be very expensive. Personally, I know that the only entree I ever get at lunch is the Pizza Hut pizza. You are only allowed one slice or it costs extra. It can seem difficult to find a meal that is enjoyable that doesn’t cost extra. Even finding a drink is hard when limited on your lunch budget, especially for any students that are lactose intolerant considering that the only thing to drink that doesn’t cost extra is milk and orange juice, which I could not drink for a whole school week. The proportions are so small, that every day at lunch I still leave starved with my stomach growling violently at me. If you ask me there shouldn’t be an extra fee for having “too much” of one item.
Another problem is that the extras are so pricey. It costs $1.95 for just one slice of pizza. One slice of pizza should not cost $1.95, that’s outrageous. Why would you charge that much for just one slice of pizza? I see many kids who only get two or three slices of pizza for lunch everyday. The worst part is the pizza is the only good tasting food that could pass as a meal.
Why must everything at lunch have to be so expensive? Don’t you think it has gotten to be a little much? All and all, I think that the school lunches have gotten out of hand. But despite all of my opinions I have about the lunches here at school, I do think that our schools lunch ladies work hard to serve us food every day, and I respect them for that.
