Sophomore Petyon is a varsity starter with success on the BV West volleyball team, and Jensen is a rising Freshman with the potential to be on the starting line. What do these two girls have in common? They’re sisters.
Peyton and Jensen Kubik, while not the first pair of sisters on the varsity team, are part of a long line of outstanding and well-rounded volleyball players.
With two older sisters, one who played overseas and one currently playing at the University of Tennessee, the vast knowledge and volleyball experiences have proven to help the Kubik siblings immensely.
“It’s pretty much our life, I feel like we’re always playing volleyball. We’re always in the gym or at practice. It’s a fun environment to be around,” said Jensen in an interview.
Making varsity as a Freshman is not an easy feat, but both sisters have accomplished the task with ease. That doesn’t mean that being on such a high-performing team doesn’t come with its challenges.
Jensen said, “You have to fight for your spot. I don’t have a guaranteed spot. You have to work really hard and fight for the spot that you want.”
Being a veteran on varsity, Peyton had advice that she would give to the Freshmen this year. “I just feel like you need to put yourself out there and be vocal because a big part of volleyball is just talking and communicating to your teammates. So, really stressing that on the freshmen, being loud, being very positive, cheering for each other, and cheering for yourself too.”
Both sisters agreed that being on the same team has not only pushed them to be better players but has also allowed them to grow closer as a family. The connection between these two is clear to see and their sisterly bond is enviable. With their talent, there’s no telling how far these two will go.
