Seniors Gabriella Aguilar and Mia Hodges deliver the weekly announcements on Sept. 26.

One of the numerous changes BV West experienced this year was the new format of morning announcements. No longer do music and students’ voices come on the intercom each day. Instead, every Tuesday two Jagged Edge students appear on a live-stream, listing the announcements and activities for the entire week.

“In the past, many people in my classes would continue to talk over them and I could never hear what was being said,” senior and Jagged Edge anchor Gabriella Aguilar said. “Now, they have people on a screen talking directly to them so they will hopefully be able to focus more on what is being said.”

Although the change has come as a shock to many, many students are optimistic about the new format.

“I do think that it’s good to have all the activities that are happening in the week announced on Tuesday because it allows people to plan easier,” senior Britain Bowles said. “I do miss jag of the day and hearing whose birthday it is everyday.”

The new format has also increased exposure and experience for Jagged Edge. The anchors will take turns reading live, giving more on-air opportunities to each.

“The announcements don’t have a huge impact on Jagged Edge because only a few people are needed to read them live in the studio,” senior and Jagged Edge anchor Mia Hodges said. “In the future, we are hoping to include highlights from different events to play during announcements so hopefully that will make them a little more interesting.”

All new changes take some adjusting, and the announcements are no exception. It has taken time for the school to build new habits and optimize the potential of the new format.

“One challenge is that all teachers have to remember to tune in themselves or they will not hear them,” Aguilar said. “This is different than when the announcements just automatically came over the speakers.”

In the past, student’s access to review the announcements has been limited, however if they miss them, they can watch them on www.jaggededgevideo.com or find them on the JAG Hub calendar on Canvas.
