Recently, someone decided it was a brilliant idea to make the movie Mean Girls 2. Obviously not very many people thought it was a good idea because ABC Family was the company that decided to air it since it wasn’t good enough for the theaters.
This movie stars, uh…, let’s just say they took a bunch of Disney Channel stars and randomly cast them for parts. There was one familiar face from the original movie Mean Girls, the one and only Principal Duvall played by Tim Meadows. Other than that you can recognize almost any one of the girls from a show on Disney Channel.
In the movie, Jo Mitchell (Meaghan Martin) moves to a new town to attend Northshore High School (sounds familiar right?) That may be because if you paid attention to the first movie at all you know that Cady Heron moves from Africa to attend the same high school.
Of course we are introduced to all of the different cliques in the beginning of the movie, the jocks, the nerds, etc. Then there are the Plastics, who lead the school. Mandi (Maiara Walsh) is the queen bee like Regina George. She has her followers Hope, who is like Gretchen Wieners, and Chastity who resembles Karen Smith.
Long story short, Mean girls 2 has an almost identical plot to Mean Girls. At one point, there was a chance that the movie was going to be slightly interesting. That was when Jo created the “Anti-Plastics” and someone actually tried to stand up to the mean girl for once by doing everything she good to make her and her friends become more popular than the Plastics and have a nicer reputation.
Surprise, surprise, Jo turned into a mean girl once they got more popular than the Plastics. She turned against her friends, not to mention the guy she was seeing, and then everything was ruined. Then blah, blah, blah, some stuff happens. But don’t worry, she gets the guy, her friends, and mean girl Mandi ends up going to jail.
The conclusion is the original Mean Girls, in the words of Gretchen Wieners, is “so fetch” but Mean Girls 2, is so not. I will admit, it caught my attention a couple different times, but then it just went right back to being one of the worst sequels ever. Way to go try and follow up on Mean Girls which is and will always be my favorite movie. So, see it, don’t see it, like I care. They should have just left it with one movie, and not made another one.
