Late Arrival- Everyday?

When you are at school you often see kids arriving late and rushing to class, with almost no time to spare. Most students would also agree that school starts to early.

A majority of adults say that teens need eight to ten hours of sleep a night, however school administrators start school rather early, to most students, and don’t take into consideration how students heads will process when they are tired. Kiersten Crumb said it is hard for her to work in the morning when it feels like she just woke up. Also, while some adults might argue to just go to bed earlier, a lot of students can’t due to things like homework, sports, and other extracurricular things. It is especially hard because, for some students, the further you get into high school the more serious some of activities become, for example, really long practices for sports.

Studies show that 59% of sixth through eighth graders did not get the amount of sleep that was recommended (8.5-9.5 hours). The American Academy of Pediatrics thinks schools should start later than 8:30; however this is true in only 15% percent of high schools. Lastly it is shown the more sleep you get you are less likely to become overweight, suffer depression, and get in car accidents.

Because of all of these things, should schools start later? It is an arguable question, however maybe if schools started later it would be better for the well-being of the kids.
