Hooray For Winter Guard

Starting in late November, the BV West winter guard teams have been practicing every week. There are two teams that represent BV West, the ruby and the silver team with the ruby team known as the varsity team. Winter guard is an indoor competitive sport that is based on traditional color guard but it is way different than color guard and it is more focused on the uniqueness and artistic elements of it.

Camps for the team members to get to know each other started in late November but the tryouts did not start until right before winter break. Since then, one Saturday a month, both ruby and silver team members come to school for an eleven hour practice session to try and get ready for their next competition. As well as the Saturday practice day, they also practice some days after school for a couple of hours. The teams have been practicing non-stop from December and will continue until the end of their season in April.

Both ruby and silver teams have competitions where they compete against teams from other Blue Valley schools and other schools in the area. On Jan. 27 both teams competed for the first time and both teams took sixth place in their respective categories.

Winter guard will continue to practice until April, then they will take on state in May.
