From honor societies and community service organizations to leisure clubs like Disc Golf and Gaming, there is something for every student at BV West to get involved with. Among the newer clubs to come to BV West is the American Red Cross Club. Sponsored by teacher Cheryl Myers and run by co-presidents, juniors Anagha Anantharaman and Mimi Nguyen, the club’s purpose is to make a difference in the community through volunteer work.

“The BV West Red Cross Club is a school community service group that works closely with the local Red Cross Unit to help fulfill the overarching humanitarian mission,” Anantharaman said.

The club, which was founded during the 2016-2017 school year, is the only Red Cross Club in the state of Kansas. Throughout the year, the club plans to do basic CPR training, put together emergency kits, host canned food drives and more. Students from all grade levels with a passion for volunteering and working as a team are welcome to join, and those interested in more information should contact Myers, Anantharam or Nguyen. New members are able to join through the end of first quarter, and admission will reopen again in January.

The Red Cross Club meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 3 P.M. in Room 262 where they discuss and plan their quarterly projects. To be updated on the latest Red Cross Club information, follow their Twitter @BVWRedCross.
